We want a City that is economically prosperous, a leader in environmental management, liveable, beautiful, inclusive and culturally vibrant. We all want to cycle around the City safely and use transport that is environmentally responsible. We want Sydney to be green, global and connected.

The Sydney South West Area Health Service has supported national Ride to Work day in previous years and supports Earth Ride. Cycling is a great way to promote physical activity. In NSW we still have 50% of the population not achiveing adequate levels of physical activity to maintain health. This is as little as 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most days of the week. By riding to work or the shops, or to visit people, people can build physical activity into lives. The less we drive, the better it is for us, and for the planet.
Transurban Group is an international toll road developer and manager with interests in Australia and the US. The Group is focused on long-term management of assets to achieve the best outcomes for both its partners and the community.
Transurban has earned international recognition for its approach to managing the impact of its projects and operations on the environment and communities, as demonstrated by inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World list of high performing companies for 3 consecutive years - 2006 to 2008.
Transurban is committed to sustainability because it makes good business sense and provides the basis for new ways of thinking and innovation. The Westlink M7 motorway features a shared pedestrian cycleway, stretching a 40 kilometre distance. This is seeks to balance the competing interests of cyclists and motorists in Sydney's western suburbs and provides the community with a safe alternative to motor transport.
We believe sustainability is based on a commitment to understanding our impacts on society and the environment, engaging with communities and responding to their concerns.
It is about ensuring we consider those impacts in all our activities. Increasingly, investors see that there are risks in ignoring community, customer and other stakeholder views and in ignoring environmental risks.
Not only do we want to do the right thing by the business, the community and the environment, we think a sustainable approach is necessary for our future growth and prosperity.
Transurban supports EARTHRIDETM as a positive environmental initiative, and shares the common goal of making cities more livable, safe and prosperous.
